Human Resources Department

Responsibilities

The Human Resources Department is responsible for strategic planning and business alignment, legal compliance and administration, workforce planning, recruitment and selection, onboarding/offboarding, growth and development, as well as employee engagement, employee relations, and performance. Maintaining the integrity of the workforce and risk management-related activities of the City is priority while balancing the concerns and operational activities of both the City, as the Employer, and the employees. As an internal business partner, the Department engages in good stewardship through contractual and fiscal responsibilities and provides direction regarding employment practices.

Recruitment and Retention

Human Resources (HR) recruitment and retention activities focus on a variety of processes regarding attracting and retaining top talent.

Human Resources plays a pivotal role in developing and implementing effective retention strategies that not only keep employees engaged but also enhance their overall job satisfaction. Our HR Department takes pride in implementing strategies to keep employees engaged and satisfied, such as professional development/training, career growth opportunities, and recognition programs.

We provide support to department leaders with attracting, selecting, and hiring candidates using various sourcing methods and technologies, resulting in business success.

Employment Practices and Employee Relations

Employee relations management is essential for maintaining positive relationships between employees and the employer. This includes addressing conflicts, fostering workplace culture, and ensuring fair treatment through policy and legal compliance.  Our office is responsible for administering employee leave (i.e. Family Medical Leave, Leave of Absence), accommodations under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and discipline/grievance processes.

For assistance in these areas, please contact: Tracy Stafford, Human Resources Deputy Director, 863.421.9927.

Risk Management

The Human Resources Department also directs and oversees risk administration for the City. Risk abatement and mitigation initiatives are accomplished through the development and application of appropriate administrative methods related to Workers' Compensation, and Property and Liability. Both Workers' Compensation and Property and Liability have related legislation and contract guidelines and are administered through a third-party provider.
