Haines City Delivers Healthy Financial Audit
Nationally recognized Certificate of Achievement for Excellence
As municipal resources have become increasingly scarce and the financial stability of many communities has been threatened, fiscal responsibility and accountability are now areas of growing concern for many, especially as we traverse the waters of this unprecedented pandemic. Fiscal responsibility is now more critical than ever.
The City of Haines City is pleased to announce it has received a sound report card for its 2018-2019 fiscal year, which ended September 30, 2019. Mauldin and Jenkins, the independent audit firm that performed the City’s audit, gave Haines City a clean audit opinion. This signifies the financial statements present fairly, in all material respects, the financial condition of the City as of September 30, 2019. The City showed strong funds, no material weaknesses, no significant deficiencies, and strong internal controls.
It is of equal importance to note, the City once again received the nationally recognized Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA).
There is no doubt, there will be economic impacts due to the current national pandemic; however, Haines City has been able to shore up more than double its required reserves of 17%. Having a healthy fund balance prepares us for times like this. We are prepared. Haines City will continue to work in unison to be good stewards of our financial resources to ensure we manage those resources judiciously for future generations.
