The Charter Review Committee has decided that one opportunity for the public to weigh in just isn’t enough.
During Monday’s public forum, the committee elected to hold another public forum on Sept. 28. Like all other Charter Review Committee meetings, it will begin at 5:30 p.m. at the Lake Eva Event Center, 799 Johns Ave.
Those hoping to follow along remotely can tune in via Zoom. Zoom links can be found on the City of Haines City’s Facebook page.
The volunteer committee, made of seven members and one alternate, was assembled and approved by the City Commission. The Charter Review Committee is tasked with reviewing the city’s charter, which serves as its chief governing document.
Chairing the committee is Paul Senft with Cynthia Downing serving as the vice chair. Other members are Albertine Richard, Dorothy Kennedy, Mark Sweat, Teresa Connell and Russell Mouton. Karen Tiner serves as the alternate.
The committee held its first meeting on Aug. 17 and is scheduled to meet every other Monday through Oct. 26. The Charter Review Committee will go before the City Commission on Nov. 5 with its final recommendations.
“This is another fantastic opportunity for residents to give feedback to the Charter Review Committee,” City Clerk Linda Bourgeois said. “The task at hand for this committee is important as these decisions will help shape our city’s policies for years to come. We encourage everyone to lend their perspective.”
