As the COVID-19 situation develops, City Administration is closely monitoring multiple resource outlets to make the best decision for the safety of our residents, visitors and staff. Below are public updates and decisions on City-related events over the next 30 days. However, there is potential for the Governor’s Office to extend or shorten this time. Please use the reputable sources listed at the end of this document for updates and information regarding the current situations on the national and local levels.
Out of an abundance of caution, both City Manager Deric C. Feacher and Parks and Recreation Director Terrell Griffin, in consultation with league leadership, feel it is prudent to suspend all City sponsored athletic activities for a period of no less than 30 days – as the COVID19 events unfold, we will evaluate if additional time is needed. Below are a list of athletic groups currently affected by this decision:
All events scheduled by the City or at a City-owned facility within the 30-day window are currently being reviewed; this includes City hosted events as well as facility rentals. Once staff has evaluated all upcoming events, we will provide necessary updates.
Spring Break Camp | March 23-27, 2020 - Haines City Spring Break Camp will not be canceled.
IRONMAN | April 18-19, 2020 - Communications have been held regularly with the IRONMAN staff. IRONMAN will follow the local public health agencies and governmental authority recommendations. At this time, IRONMAN 70.3 will not be canceled. Updates and changes may take place as the event nears.
