For the month of September, the Haines City Police Department is teaming with the Miami-based Smile Trust and other credible organizations to aid victims of Hurricane Dorian in the Bahamas.

The Haines City Police Department is soliciting donations from individuals, businesses and other agencies that can help provide relief. The list of needed donations as recommended by the Smile Trust is as follows:

  • Toiletries
  • Diapers
  • First aid items
  • Cleaning supplies
  • Canned goods
  • Box fans
  • Leather work gloves
  • Hand sanitizer
  • Non-perishable food
  • Water
  • Cleaning and baby wipes
  • Tents
  • Generators
  • Extension cords
  • Gas cans
  • Duct tape
  • Tarps
  • Ropes
  • Batteries
  • Flashlights
  • Bug spray
  • Unused blankets
  • Trash bags
  • Solar phone chargers
  • Sunscreen

Other organizations have and continue to step forward to serve as drop-off locations. We are asking that those interested in serving as drop-off locations simply make us aware and provide a bin or drop-off container inside or outside their place of business. The Haines City COPS unit will make pick-ups from other agencies and drop-offs as needed throughout the month.

Clothing donations are discouraged. For those who wish to make a monetary donation, we are recommending that they be made online at
